Depression: Through the Pain

You CAN make it through the pain.

Self-Abuse

Good morning!  How is your gratitude journal coming?  Are you remembering to do it every night?

Yesterday we talked about others abusing you.  Well, you knew it was coming….we’ve got to talk about self-abuse.  Part of healing from depression is knowing when to be tough on yourself and when to show yourself some compassion.  This is both.

If you are cutting, hitting, shooting, sniffing, drinking, hustling, etc., you’ve got to let it go.  Be compassionate with yourself, knowing that you did what you thought you had to do to survive.  But NOW IS THE TIME TO LET IT GO AND GET WELL. You need a clean body and brain to get through this and to start a better life.

GOD MADE YOU IN HIS VERY OWN IMAGE, so please don’t treat yourself like trash.  (“So God created man in His own image”  Genesis 1:27)   YOU ARE PRECIOUS TO YOUR CREATOR, and it breaks His heart to see you hurting. THERE IS A BETTER LIFE WAITING FOR YOU.

The first thing you’ve got to do is make the decision that you want a better life.  That this life of self-abuse hurts too much to continue.  You know that there are resources waiting to help you.  Go to a doctor or to the emergency room if you need help, and they can point you in the right direction in your community.  If you’re nervous, call first to see what information they can give you.  If the first place doesn’t know, call someone else.  Also, don’t forget about 12-Step programs for alcohol, drugs, codependency, and more; they can be very helpful.

YOU CAN DO THIS.  Have compassion on yourself for your past ways of dealing with life, but get tough at the same time.  Change is never easy, but you know that you need to turn your life around.  SO MANY PEOPLE ARE PULLING FOR YOU, AND SO IS GOD.

Tomorrow I’ll be posting later in the day than usual, but I’ll be back.  You’ve got my support!

Blessings, Elizabeth

Today is a new day!

Welcome to Depression: Through the Pain.  Today is a new day, and I promise that you CAN MAKE IT through depression.  I survived a horrific bout with it 20 years ago, and I’ll be sharing with you ways to survive and even flourish.  You WILL get better.

I’m not with you, so I don’t know how severe your depression is.  However, if you are having trouble functioning or considering suicide (or homicide), GO SEE A DOCTOR.  Make the appointment TODAY, or go to your local emergency room.  There is no reason to be ashamed of seeking help for depression.  Would you be ashamed to have heart trouble treated?  Or cancer?  Or asthma?  It’s the same thing.  The chemicals in your brain are not behaving as they should, and they are incapacitating you or causing harmful thoughts.  GET THE HELP YOU NEED.  There’s no glory in toughing it out without using the available resources.  You need to use whatever you can to battle the tough opponent of depression.

Let’s start filling your toolbox with what you need to conquer this depression.  A good doctor and possibly a prescribed medication are an excellent start.  I’ll be writing again tomorrow, sharing one of the things you can do on your own.  You’ll get better.  I know it’s hard to wait, but healing just takes time.  We’ll work on it together.

Blessings,  Elizabeth
